Healthcare

The Healthcare Profession always puts the client / service user first, and at PHSC we follow this philosophy with our customers by putting them first. The synergy this brings enables us to add value to our clients and help make their working-lives that little bit better, and is one of the many reasons why we are so passionate about working in this industry sector.

Nursing homeWe have worked closely with all areas of healthcare over the last 25 years, including  NHS, General Practice, Health and Social Care, Domicilliary, Learning Difficulty and Residential/ Nursing Care.  In recent years we have seen a huge growth in provision of care to clients with Dementia and Altzheimers Disease, and this brings its own and different challenges to ensure both staff and clients remain safe, whilst maintaining dignity to all.

We have been authors to a number of publications in healthcare over the years, and often write editorial for various journals.

Healthcare is one of the most audited and monitored business sectors, and due to the vulnerable nature of the people it seeks to help, it should remain under close scrutiny. The challenge though is for the care manager to juggle so many compliance issues, often with very little time and resource to ensure the document trail reflects their good practice.

Healthcare Safety Management Audit

Our Healthcare Safety Management audit helps you identify if and where there are any significant gaps relating to HSE requirements and the CQC. Our audit integrates the Outcomes within the new Domains with workplace health and safety,  food safety, and environmental management legislation. This gives you an integrated approach to risk, reduces duplication in work processes, and enables you to look at how you can link systems and resources together; a win/win situation.

Our audit can be scored, to give you a qualitative baseline by which to measure and demonstrate to your stakeholders that you are achieving continuous improvement. Or we can audit without such scoring if you prefer a more fluid approach. You get to choose what you need and would like and we can guide you in the best way to achieve it.

A typical audit will cover approximately 28 different subjects, and include:

Model Contents List:

  • Health and Safety Management
  • Premises Management & CQC Domains
  • Asbestos Management
  • Electrical Safety
  • Fire Safety and Management
  • Legionella Management
  • Training of staff
  • Lifts and Lifting Equipment
  • Staff and Resident safety
  • Welfare Arrangements & Occupational Health
  • Infection Control
  • Violence and Aggression
  • Moving and handling
  • Food safety

Sector Specific Training

PHSC Training

We have developed a specialist healthcare course that is accredited by the UK’s leading professional institution – Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH). IOSH accredited courses are recognised by the CQC and the HSE. The key advantages of this training include:

  • It integrates H&S legislation with Healthcare legislation, avoiding duplication in systems
  • It is totally bespoke to your profession, and relates every subject to how H&S applies in healthcare settings
  • You learn by problem solving, using case studies that apply to several specialist areas of healthcare. This means different disciplines can learn together within the same course (eg mental health, learning difficulty, residential care etc).
  • It is only 2 days long, rather than 4 days to attend the general IOSH Managing Safely course.
