Introduction

This course is in line with the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and meets the needs of Ofsted. It is suitable for Childminders, Nursery and School staff (dealing with Foundation Stage) and anybody who deals with children and wants a more in-depth course.

This two day (12 hour) course includes both theory and practical sessions.

Suitable for:

Anyone administering first-aid that works with children aged five or under. This is a mandatory course under the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation stage EYFS. The requirement is that in each establishment there is at least one person who has a current paediatric first-aid certificate on the premises. There must also be someone suitably qualified on outings.

Course objectives

Following course attendance, course members should be able to: -

  • Administer basic first-aid in an emergency
  • Demonstrate mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and chest compression
  • Observe personal protection and hygiene procedures
  • Perform practical first aid duties in accordance with training given and requirements of the school and Early Years Foundation
  • Record and report information and treatment details to comply with legislation

Duration

Two days

Exam Format

Continuous assessment takes place throughout the two days of training, finishing with a multi-choice questionnaire at the end of the course.

  • Injuries to bones and joints
DAY TWO
  • Welcome and recap on day one
  • Injuries to the head and spine

  • Management of medical conditions and illnesses
  • Poisoning
  • Review of the two days
  • Course assessment
