The ability to identify, understand and manage risk is now recognised as an important and vital leadership skill, critical to running a business, and is a key element in Corporate Governance. Directors have legal responsibilities to report to their shareholders and stakeholders that the organisation is being run properly and that their interests are being protected. Organisations must understand the risks and uncertainty it faces and put in place an effective risk management system
Risk management is not a discipline which is left to one individual or function; it must be embedded into the normal business processes you have in place. An essential element to achieving this is to have appropriately trained staff, something which the Combined Code makes clear. Training helps develop a risk aware culture by harmonising the risk-assessment process across various disciplines and developing key competencies within the management team. Certified competence in a shared process also improves capacity to deliver internal mutual support.

The Management of Risk & Uncertainty (MoRU) course is an excellent start point for risk training. It is a 2 day training programme delivered by IRM approved trainers. MoRU provides a broad introduction to risk management, focusing on understanding the consequences of risk, allowing delegates, with up-to-date case studies, to practice the most common risk techniques and apply the methods of risk treatment and control.
This is offered as a public course but can also be offered as an-in house course just for your business which allows the course to be delivered with a greater focus on your business sector.
