Healthcare Industry Health & Safety Services

      Healthcare safety

Health and safety in the healthcare sector demands a unified approach, safeguarding both healthcare professionals and those under their care. At PHSC, we share the same client-centred philosophy, ensuring our customers' needs are met with utmost priority. Our dedication to healthcare health and safety management enables us to add value and enhance your work.

With over 30 years of experience, we have provided comprehensive health and safety services to various healthcare organisations, including NHS, general practice, health and social care, domiciliary care, residential/nursing care, and hospital health & safety management. We are well-versed in addressing the unique challenges associated with caring for individuals with Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease, ensuring the safety and dignity of both staff and clients.

Healthcare is one of the most highly audited and monitored business sectors and, due to the vulnerabile nature of the people it seeks to help, requires meticulous compliance. Our health and safety support in the care profession integrates CQC (RQIA, CCSIW or Care Inspectorate) with HSE requirements for workplace health and safety compliance in care settings, assisting busy care managers in maintaining robust practices efficiently.

      Healthcare Safety Management Audit

Our Healthcare Safety Management audit is designed to help healthcare organizations identify and address significant gaps in HSE requirements and CQC standards. By integrating the outcomes within key domains with workplace health and safety, food safety, and environmental management legislation, our audit provides a comprehensive and streamlined approach to risk management. This integration eliminates duplication in your work processes and reveals opportunities for system/resource optimization.

Our audits provide an overall qualitative score for compliance as well as by specific topic. You will receive a qualitative baseline to track continuous improvement and monitor progress. Alternatively, if you prefer a more flexible approach, we can conduct audits without scoring, focusing on key outputs tailored to your specific needs. We are here to guide you in achieving your desired outcomes effectively.

A typical audit will cover approximately 28 different subjects, and include:

      • Health and Safety Management & Leadership
      • Premises Management & CQC Domains
      • Asbestos Management
      • Electrical Safety

      PHSC Training

      Healthcare Health & Safety Training

We have developed a specialist healthcare health and safety management course that is accredited by the UK’s leading professional institution – The Institution of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH). IOSH accredited courses are recognised by the CQC and the HSE. The key advantages of this health & safety training for healthcare professionals includes:

      • It integrates H&S legislation with Healthcare legislation and supports CQC compliance, avoiding duplication in systems
      • It is totally bespoke to your profession, and relates every subject to how H&S applies in healthcare settings
      • You learn by problem solving, using case studies that apply to your area of healthcare. This means you can have teams from different areas of care join the same course and still have content which is relevant (eg mental health, learning difficulty, residential care etc).
      • It is only 2 days long, rather than 3 or 4 days which is what is needed to complete the general IOSH Managing Safely course.
