IOSH Principles of Safety Management in Healthcare was designed by PHSC and has been approved by IOSH, which is the UKs leading professional institution in safety management. This course seamlessly merges healthcare regulations with health and safety legislation, enabling a cohesive strategy to meet HSE and CQC standards.
PHSC plc and its wholly owned group of companies are the only organisations who are approved to present this course. We selected the key issues that relate to care providers and designed a practical workshop, whereby managers apply what they are learning to real-life situations. Case studies are designed around a typical management system of Plan, Do, Check, Act and covers the main Principles of Safety Management in Healthcare.
If you're a healthcare professional seeking a benchmark of health and safety competence, our two-day course is designed for you. This course will allow you to obtain a recognised certificate while minimising workplace absence.
Within the two days, we cover the primary health and safety management principles in a practical and sector-specific way. The course content can be tailored further to reflect specific areas of healthcare (eg care home management, NHS Trusts, private clinics, dentists etc).

This program hones in on crucial aspects of healthcare safety management, including:
This course caters to supervisors and managers who deal with health and safety issues as part of their general responsibilities within the healthcare sector.
Upon course completion, participants will be equipped to:
Half hour multi-choice examination, and a mini risk assessment project completed within the training time.
Years of experience in the care profession led us to recognise the challenges faced by care professionals in demonstrating compliance with healthcare and safety legislation and health and safety legislation. It can be very time consuming and confusing for a busy manager who has several roles to identify what is needed to comply, how to do it effectively in practice, and also how to evidence it has been done.
When researching availability of approved training, we discovered there were no specialist courses targeted for managers/supervisors that were bespoke to the healthcare profession, and the only approved course for managers was four days duration from IOSH and managers simply couldn’t afford to take four days out of their busy work schedules.
Our course bridges the gap by integrating Healthcare Legislation with Health and Safety legislation and providing tailored, sector-specific training. The course helps managers to avoid duplicating efforts and navigate the complexities of compliance efficiently.
The trainers work tirelessly to ensure everyone is at ease and involved in the learning process regardless of employment background. The continual support, marked homework with constructive feedback and continual guidance gave me the confidence I needed to sit the exams. I really enjoyed the well-designed course and friendly learning environment. And the site visit to the RBLI brought everything we had learnt together.
We have been working with PHSC for a year now and are delighted with the IOSH Principles of Safety Management in Healthcare training delivered to our teams. The team's vast experience and knowledge and ease of training style allows effective communication and understanding by delegates at all levels of our organisation. This includes operational staff, managers and senior managers. PHSC also tailors the training well to recognise the charity context we operate in and to cover both hospice and community nursing care issues. All delegates have provided excellent feedback including comments like “thoroughly enjoyable” and “thought provoking” which is exactly what we want training to be. Looking forward to continuing to arrange courses with PHSC in the future.
