Our NEBOSH National General Certificate qualification course provides a good foundation in health and safety for managers, supervisors and staff whose day-to-day responsibilities include health and safety. Ensuring you or one of your employees obtains this NEBOSH certificate will help to promote efficient and reliable workplace health and safety processes and procedures.
This NEBOSH qualification is often the first step towards starting a career in health & safety. It is accepted by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and meets the academic requirements for Technical Membership of IOSH (Tech IOSH).
The NEBOSH National General Certificate (NGC) is the most common and widely utilised health & safety qualification. Those who have completed the course can oversee and undertake a positive change in their working environments, creating a safer workplace for customers and employees.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety is the most attended level 3 course provided by NEBOSH. This national qualification is recognised by employers worldwide as the standard for Health & Safety in the workplace.
If you want to build a career in health and safety, the NEBOSH National General Certificate is considered a standard within the industry. Health & Safety is ever more prominent with recent events meaning that workplaces have to place more weight on proper implementation of safe working practices.
Both the national and international NEBOSH General Certificates provide the same level of qualification. The main way in which the national and international courses differ is the health and safety legislation they reference.
That being said, a National NEBOSH General Certificate will allow you to work in countries worldwide but may require some research on specific regulations for that particular country.
The NEBOSH National General Certificate is equivalent to an A-Level qualification. To successfully complete the course you will need to score 45% or more in the open book assessment and match all of the requirements for the practical assignment.
We are proud of our success rate, where over 80% of people who study with us pass on their first attempt. We often achieve a 100% pass rate too, and always help some of our learners achieve credit and distinction grades. Let our results be the judge of our success in teaching this course.
After successfully completing your NGC Course and obtaining your qualification certificate, you can further your knowledge with other NEBOSH Courses. We offer a NEBOSH Environmental Management Course as well as a NEBOSH HSE Award in Managing Risks and Risk Assessment at Work training.
This course is suitable for managers and supervisors within an organisation.
By the end of the training, delegates will be able to:
The course will take place over 11 days on a block-release basis. The usual format for this is 2 x 5 days and 1 extra day before the examination date. The examinations themselves last for 1 day. In addition to the training and examinations, students are required to complete a practical assignment at a workplace of their choice within 14 days of the examination.
Homework will be issued to delegates throughout the course. This homework will be marked by a former NEBOSH examiner who will give ongoing guidance and feedback.
Units NGC1 and GC2 are each assessed by a two-hour written examination. Each written examination consists of ten ‘short-answer’ questions and one ‘long-answer’ question. It is compulsory to answer all questions. Candidate exam papers are marked by external examiners appointed by NEBOSH.
Unit NGC3 is assessed by a two-hour practical examination carried out in the candidate’s workplace. This practical assessment must normally be taken within 14 days of the written examination. The practical examination is internally assessed by the programme organiser and externally moderated by NEBOSH.
A certificate will be awarded to those who complete the course.
There are many specialists in neurodiversity to assist in workplace assessment. Where the specialist is also an experienced health and safety practitioner there is often an advantage because they understand the workplace requirements as well as how environment can affect neurodiversity.
PHSC have completed many such assessments covering a wide range of occupational health workplace assessments, including for neurodiverse employees.
